Our client is looking for a dedicated Community Development Manager to join their team. As a Development Manager, your primary role will be to provide guidance and support to mining charities in the South England Region. You will focus on sustainability, business planning, funding, good governance, and safeguarding our client's interests.
Key Responsibilities:
- Providing support to mining charities in the South England Region in areas such as development opportunities, sustainability, funding, and governance.
- Offering secretariat services to mining-related regional grant-making charities.
- Assisting mining charities in developing business plans and budgets.
- Contributing to the development of our client's support services for other mining charities, exploring new ways to assist local trustees.
- Promoting our client's support services through site visits to miners' welfare charities and meetings with local charity officers.
- Helping mining charities identify funding opportunities and develop funding proposals.
- Building local partnerships with other voluntary sector organizations, local government tiers, and communities.
- Ensuring that our client's interests and responsibilities within partner charities are maintained and fulfilled.
- Representing the organization in interactions with external parties, including welfare charities, councils, and local authorities.
- Promoting the organization's work with welfare charities through various marketing activities.
- Providing training for local charity trustees and officers, with a focus on encouraging good governance and capacity building.
- Supporting the recruitment of local trustees for mining charities.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Produce high-quality reports related to funding, activity monitoring, and evaluation.
- Undertake monitoring and reporting of work carried out with welfare charities.
- Participate in personal development opportunities and facilitate such opportunities for team members to promote a culture of learning and development in the region.
- Work within a flexible framework to meet the demands of the service, which may include working outside standard 9-5 hours and significant travel.
- Undertake any other duties as requested and reasonable for the post.
Skills/Qualifications/Experience:
Essential:
- A degree-level education or equivalent.
- Experience in community development and/or business development.
- Proven experience in building positive relationships with a variety of stakeholders, including at the community level.
- Experience in identifying and applying for funding on a national, regional, or local level.
- Understanding of business planning and budgets.
- Proven experience working in the charity sector with a good understanding of governance requirements and sector challenges.
- Demonstrated experience in building confidence and a positive reputation with stakeholders.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, with the ability to influence and engage with a wide range of partners.
- Excellent IT skills, including the use of various IT packages and databases.
- Evidence of ongoing personal development and participation in learning opportunities.
- Self-motivated with strong personal organizational and time management skills.
- Good judgment and logical decision-making ability.
- Ability to proactively and positively resolve problems.
- Initiative and a practical, "hands-on" approach to work.
- A valid driving license and access to a vehicle.
- Flexibility to travel across a wide geographic area with occasional overnight stays.
Desirable:
- Experience in designing and delivering training.
- Knowledge and understanding of the issues facing former mineworkers and mining communities.
